Chorley pole vaulter Holly Bradshaw achieved the qualification standard for the World Athletics Championships on Sunday, in her first competition since last March.

The 23-year-old marked her return, after a planned break to shake off niggling injury concerns, with a Welsh all-comers record of 4.50m in Cardiff.

The British record holder came back with a bang, going straight to the top of this year’s UK rankings, and the former Parklands pupil Bradshaw said: “I was super excited about competing again and I’m so pleased to have got the world championship qualification mark out of the way.”

Bradshaw eased over 4.35m, and then cleared 4.50m with her second attempt, before narrowly failing at 4.62m.
