Pensioner in hospital with 'serious' head injuries after being shot in Clitheroe

A man in his seventies is in hospital with serious head injuries after shots were fired in a house on Easter Monday.

Residents in Clitheroe are now being reassured by officers, after a large police presence was spotted in Green Drive on Monday afternoon.

A spokesman for Ribble Valley Police said: "You may have seen a large police presence in the Green Drive area of Clitheroe yesterday (Monday, April 5th) so we wanted to let you know what happened.

"We were called at around 2-30pm to an address on the street to reports a man, aged in his seventies, had been injured with a firearm.

"He remains in hospital undergoing treatment for serious head injuries.

"It was initially reported that the man had been making threats towards other people with a firearm, however, it was later established this had not been the case.

"We would like to reassure you that there is not thought to have been any third party involvement and there were no wider threats to the public."
