Your views wanted to help shape Preston '˜Garden city' masterplan

The North West Preston Masterplan looks at future development including around 5,300 new homes in the Fulwood, Cottam, Ingol, Bartle and Woodplumpton areas.

Residents flocked to Tanterton Village Centre this week in the latest round of public consultation meetings.

The North West Preston Masterplan aims to create modern, sustainable communities with a mix of affordable housing, good public transport links, cycling routes, new schools, new community facilities, parks and greenspaces.

It is a long-term plan which has now been updated to provide more detailed design guidance for developers to show what is expected for development on the new link road corridor.

Preston Council’s senior planning officer Tom Wiggans said there had a been steady flow of people at the Tanterton meeting.

He stressed that nothing was yet cast in stone.

Mr Wiggans said: “Its hard perhaps to get across this is a very long-term plan.

“It might be 20 years.

“All the details and all the feedback will go into the planning process.”

He said highways issues were the most common issues raised during the consultation process.

Interested parties have until August 12 to have their say.

One resident said: “I am concerned about traffic issues.

“Where is all the traffic going to go if all these houses and everything are built?”

Jim Carter, chairman of the Preston and South Ribble City Deal, said the masterplan aimed to ensure that future developments were carried out in a joined-up and responsible way.”

Major new link roads are part of the overall housing scheme.
