To the sniggers of the assembled Henrys and Henriettas, he mockingly referred to our city as hardly being a ‘motor force’ of the British economy.

He contemptuously downplayed the efforts of ‘little Preston’ to better itself yet this is from a man whose grand vision for the economy is to suggest building a bridge to Ireland, no doubt as an escape route to the European Union for his buddy Rees-Mogg, who has moved his hedge fund to Dublin to avoid the damage of Brexit.

Well, we are pretty straight-talking here in Preston, so let me tell you this, Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson, to give you your proper name.

The average Preston man and woman makes more of a contribution to the real British economy than you have ever done in all your distinguished career as a journalist, which ended with the sack for lying, followed by a calamitous spell as the worst Foreign Secretary to hold the office since Lord North lost the colonies.

If your snobbish contempt for the North is the best the Conservative Party can offer Britain, then the fringes of power is where your party deserves to be.
