A British wrestling legend will make a homecoming trip to Blackpool as part of a major international tour.
WWE has announced the first international tour of its NXT developmental brand, with seven UK stops, including the Winter Gardens’ Empress Ballroom in December.
And leading the charge for the event will Blackpool-born William Regal.
William, real name Darren Matthews, is now the general managre of NXT.
He began his career in 1983 and was a regular in the days of ITV’s World Of Sport, before heading to America to join the WCW stable of fighters, going through various ring names with both WCW and WWE before settling with the latter and his current moniker going on to win a raft of titles.
Now he’s a mainstay of the NXT team, training the stars of tomorrow and working behind the scenes as an international talent scout.
Blackpool’s Empress Ballroom will be one of the more intimate settings as NXT travels to seven UK destinations, also including the SSE Hydro in Glasgow, Capital FM Arena in Nottingham, Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff and the SSE Wembley Arena in London.
Paul Levesque, aka WWE’s Triple H, said: “We are thrilled to announce our first international tour.
“The tour marks a major milestone in the continued expansion of the NXT brand.”
NXT’s UK tour will feature NXT champion Finn Bálor, Samoa Joe, Bayley, Tyler Breeze, Dana Brooke, Emma and more.
Finn said: “On behalf of all the NXT Superstars and Divas, we are extremely excited at the opportunity to perform in the UK.
“I look forward to the opportunity to return to where I started my career, giving fans new memories that they will never forget.”
