A wrestling academy will open in Preston this month after planning permission was granted unanimously.
Steven Fludder, of Preston City Wrestling, applied to the council to change the use of an industrial unit in St Marys Street into the new academy.
The plans were recommended for approval by officers, who said they would bring empty premises back into use, and were given the green light by councillors.
Steven said he was pleased he could now go ahead with working to open the academy.
He said: “I’m happy it has finally gone through.
“The first few sessions are going to be taken by Chris Masters, so they get to learn from an international star.”
He said there had already been a lot of interest in the academy, and said: “The majority of people who come with be males and females, aged 18 to 25, but there will be all ages, there’s no limit.”
The application would normally have been decided by council officers, but was put before councillors as Preston Council owns the land.
