Worshippers' vision for future of the church

Christians from across Lancashire flocked to an event for a special celebration.

Vision 2026 at Preston Guild Hall saw worshippers discuss the work of churches in the area, admit all the churchwardens of the Diocese in to their roles in one place for the first time, and plan future goals.

Around 1,600 people attended the event, making it one of the largest Christian gatherings in Lancashire this year.

To make it extra special, a recorded video message from The Archbishop of York, The Most Rev. Dr John Sentamu, was played.

Steven Lowe from BBC Radio Lancashire compered the evening and during a special section, he interviewed the three Bishops of the Diocese about what Vision 2026 means in relation to the key themes of making disciples, being witnesses and growing leaders.

Churchwarden Tom Wilson, from St John’s Church in Leyland, who was admitted into his role at the Guild Hall, thought the evening was “encouraging and uplifting”.

He added: “I’m really glad I went and it was good to be able to stand together with so many other churchwardens.

“It’s exciting to see everyone getting on board with Vision 2026 and as a church we are now looking forward to the opportunities Crossroads Mission in September will bring.”

The Crossroads Mission will see Bishops from across the north of England come to Lancashire from September 8-11 to galvanise four days of mission and evangelism.

They will be joined by the Archbishop of York.
