A woman was rescued by emergency services after falling into a river.
Six fire engines, police and paramedics were called to the River Darwen near Chorley Road in Walton-le-Dale, where the 44-year-old went into the water just after 11pm on Sunday.
Watch manager Mark Noblett said the woman was at the bottom of a steep banking, making it difficult for her to be brought out.
He said: “There were police in the water, they scrambled down the banking and hauled her to the side.
“We got some rope and a harness and got them down to her. The water wasn’t that deep, but it was fast-running.
“We got another line down, secured it round her waste and hauled her up.
“We got her onto a stretcher, she was talking when we got her up, and she went into an ambulance.”
