Two crews from Bamber Bridge and one from Penwortham attended the incident.

A hose reel was then used to put out the flames.

Both residents were treated by paramedics for smoke inhalation.

Several downstairs rooms of the property have been damaged by fire and smoke.

Crew manager David Widdop of Bamber Bridge fire station said: “On arrival it was evident there was a fire concentrated on the front door of the house.

“The smoke from that fire had filled the downstairs of the property.

“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus went into the house and were able to bring both occupants out safely.

“That was our main concern before we were able to bring the fire under control.”

An investigation into the cause of the blaze is now under way involving Lancashire Fire and Rescue and Lancashire Police.
