The Brazilian jiu-jitsu tournament entitled Densetsu, the Japanese word for Legend, is a submission only event with fights lasting as long as it takes.

The event includes martial artists from across the UK, including Penwortham’s Stuart Cooper, and permits all types of submissions.

The event also features Karolina Wojcik, who trains out of Reps Gym on Longridge Road, Preston.

And one of the organisers, Preston-based Lawrence Dutton, said: “This is a must-see for anyone who is a fan of any combative sport.

“It’ll be fast-paced but it’s not guts and glory. It’s very highly skilled and actually very child friendly.”

Brazilian jiu-jitsu is described as a martial art and combat sport that teaches a smaller person how to defend himself against a larger adversary by using leverage and proper technique.

The winner of the eight men will receive a cash prize of £2,000 with the winner of the women’s tournament taking home £1,000.

Lawrence said: “It’s set to be a great night of brilliant entertainment and we’re expecting a big crowd.

“These are some of the best around and no doubt they’ll put on a show.”

The event runs tomorrow night from 7pm.
