Vandals have destroyed the paintwork of a family car by pouring paint stripper over it.

Yobs targeted the right hand side of a BMW X1 worth £26,000.

The car will have to be resprayed and it is expected to cost £4,000.

Lancashire Police is investigating the incident which happened between the hours of 6pm on Sunday and 8am on Monday.

The vehicle was parked on Stewart Simon’s drive on Meadowside, Croston.

Mr Simon believes the vandalism was caused by youths in the area.

He said: “I’m shocked that this has happened.

“I believe it’s youths in the area that have done it as some sort of practical joke.

“We’ve never had any trouble like this before in the village of Croston.

“It’s a lovely place and we have excellent neighbours, the people that have done it obviously have no understanding of what problems damage like this can cause.”

Mr Simon is hoping the repair work can be completed in the coming weeks.

He added: “I’m definitely going to step up security in the area, perhaps security lights or even CCTV cameras.

“We want people to think twice about doing something like this again.”

A spokesperson from Lancashire Police, said: “We were told about the incident on Monday by Mr Simon.

“The offenders are unknown and we don’t have any CCTV images from the area.

“We are investigating the incident and are asking for any witnesses to come forward.”

If anybody has any information about the incident they can call police on 101 and quote the log number of 0236 – Monday 31.
