‘We celebrated our engagement at the seaside with fish and chips’

And they soon realised that wasn’t all they like to be beside.

The couple met on the dance floor of the Roper Hall seven years ago when Dan, a sports journalist originally from Barnet, London, recognised Katie from having worked at the Adelphi a few years earlier.

Katie says, “Our first date was to Blackpool where we ate fish and chips, played on the 2p games on the pier and rode on the big wheel.”

After an “incredible” two week trip to the East coast of America, which ended in Las Vegas the couple returned to their first date destination.

Prestonian Katie, who works as a team leader in a homeless hostel, adds: “Dan chose to wait a couple of extra weeks after our holiday so he could propose on our five-year annivesary.”

And on the very big wheel where the couple spent their first date, Dan popped the question when they reached the top.

Katie says, “We celebrated with fish and chips in the sunshine...and a few pints!”

Dan and Katie had just three months to organise their wedding.

Katie says, “We only booked the wedding in December so it was quite a rush to plan it all.”

On March 29, the pair were married at Samlesbury Hall.

“We had a lot of handmade items - the cake of 60 mini Victoria sponges was made by my sister, Rosemary,” says Katie

“The tree trunk centre pieces came from local woodland, the flowers were made by myself and my mum and the confetti was made by spending hours hole-punching coloured paper. It’s just a shame we forgot to throw it!”

At the reception, which had a London/Lancashire theme, the mother of the bride recited a funny poem about Katie and had made a 6ft size board of Henry VIII with a wife’s head under his arm.

Katie says, “The faces were cut out for people to put their own faces in.

“It caused great amusement and has since been donated to Samlesbury Hall.”

Guests were treated to favours of Lancashire tea bags and London Pride beer mats plus wooden egg cups, personalised by the bride.

The newlyweds returned to California for their honeymoon and will live in East London.
