WATCH: Preston free runners land major Disneyland Paris gig with Marvel
Two Preston free runners are set to entertain tens of thousands of holiday goers at Disneyland Paris after landing a huge contract with Hollywood giants Marvel.
Sean Newsham and Bam Nelson, of city free runners Street Monkeys, are taking on the roles of leading Marvel superheroes at Disneyland Paris’ inaugural ‘Marvel Summer of Super Heroes’ running from June to September.
The show will see them perform five times a day, five days a week, for four months.
Street Monkeys team manager, Sean Delaney, said: “We initially auditioned for supporting roles but on the last night we had some costume fittings, so we knew it was going to be good for them.
Sean Newsham, 22, from Ashton, said: “I’ve worked normal jobs but it never clicked for me. Free running flows naturally for me and feels right.”
The pair have known about the move since November last year but have had to stay quiet about it until they travelled to Paris via Eurostar last Thursday night.
“This is the dream,” explained Sean, a former Ashton Community Science College student who has been free running since he was 14.
“You always aim for this but you never think it would be this big and exciting. Going from the likes of Leyland Festival – which is great – to Disney is amazing.”
For 25-year-old Bam, the decision has been a hard one due to his four-month-old baby daughter, Autumn Nelson.
“I thought ‘I can’t do it’; there’s so many things I will miss,” explained Brookfield-resident Bam.
“But it’s a career for us and a secure future for her. When she’s older she can say ‘look at what my dad did’.”
Bam, a former Preston College student, added: “Growing up watching all the Marvel films and for them to then say ‘we want you’. It’s a good feeling you know.”
Team manager Sean said: “To have Marvel on their CV and on the businesses CV is what it’s all about.
"We expect more support and interest once this news is out there. We want young people to aspire to do the things they love.”
Marvel’s ‘Summer of Super Heroes’ show at Disneyland Paris will run from June 10 to September 30 to mark the 25th anniversary of the park.
