Police are investigating a rubbish fire in Ribbleton as firefighters warns of a growing problem across Lancashire.

Both emergency services were called to Sion Close at around 8.25pm on Saturday, where a wheelie bin had been set on fire.

One fire engine from Preston was sent to the scene to put out the fire.

A spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue said: “We are having an issue with wheelie bins all over the district at the moment.

“The police were already in attendance and we are working together to try and identify some offenders as well as educate some people in the area.”

Residents are urged to help tackle the problem by taking bins off the street as soon as reasonable possible after collection day.
