The service, which operates out of the Capitol Centre at Walton-Le-Dale, is opening late to help avoid the stress of city centre parking in the run up to the big day.

A spokesman at Lancashire County Council said: “You can catch the last bus from the city back to your car at 8.50pm on Wednesday, December 12 and Thursday, December 13, and every day from Monday 17 to Saturday 22.

“The park and ride is also running on Sundays throughout December, with buses every 15 minutes.

“The first bus from the park and ride will leave at 10am, and the last bus back will leave the city at 5.30pm.

“On Christmas Eve, Monday, December 24, the last bus back will leave at 6.23pm.”

Meanwhile, plenty of city centre car parks will be offering free parking over the festive period.
