Walton-le-Dale man to take to the high seas for Cancer Research UK

He will be joined in the challenge by Scott Leitch, 26, of County Antrim.
Alex, who ia area sales manager at The Stenaline Freight Ltd, said: “After seeing mum taken far too soon by cancer, I wanted to do something positive to remember her, and everyone affected by cancer, and to help those who may be affected in the future.

Hide Ad“I want to do something that pushes me beyond anything I have done before.
“The challenge will be the culmination of months of training and preparation.
“Living on opposite sides of the Channel means we have had to do most of our training independently.
“I have been rowing in the gym and on Lake Windermere, where I row with Windermere Rowing Club. Scott has been on the rowing machine in his house every night.

Hide Ad“We’re both preparing as best we can, building up the endurance and strength that we’ll need to be able to row consistently for that length of time, but however much we prepare the conditions on the day could turn against us.
“That’s when we’ll have to really dig deep and keep each other going but it’s so motivating to know the money we raise will be helping Cancer Research UK to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.”
Alex and Scott are hoping to raise around £3,000 for life-saving research to help more men, women and children in Preston and across the UK survive the disease.
