Walk to mark war outbreak

A group of walkers from the Royal British Legion in Lostock Hall is planning to hold a walk of remembrance on August 4, marking the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War.

The walk will see veterans and other participants visit eight churches in Lostock Hall and Bamber Bridge and lay poppies at each the memorials at each church.

The remembrance event will finish with a candle lit service at the memorial in Lostock Hall at 10.45pm.

All but one of the candles will be blown out by 11pm to mark the time Britain declared war on Germany at 11pm on August 4 1914 .

The Royal British Legion in Lostock Hall is inviting people from the areas to talk part in both the walk and the late-night service.
