An application has been submitted to build up to 34 homes off Garstang Road in Barton, on the boundary of Preston Council and Wyre Council land.

But neighbours have raised objections against the plans, fearing there are not enough facilities in the village to serve the homes.

Northern Edge Capital Limited has submitted the outline application to both councils.

A design and access statement submitted by agents Sedgwick Associates said the site was within an “established residential community”, with services including a nursery, school, village hall, pub and hotel. It said: “The proposals will make efficient and effective use of the site in a manner that is reflective of the surrounding area.” But Coun Stephen Thompson, who represents Preston Rural North, said a public meeting had been held about development in the area and the Wyre Local Plan, with almost 150 people in attendance. He said there weren’t “any facilities” in Barton, and added: “We’re not against development as long as it’s done in the right way and in the right place. Any further development in Barton is not going to go down very well.”
