Van driver flees scene after two injured in collision with a car

Firefighters gave first aid to two people injured when a car and a van collided in Morecambe last night.

Police say the driver of the Ford Transit van fled the scene in Westgate before officers arrived.

The collision happened around 6.10pm and two crews from Morecambe Fire Station attended the scene, helped two casualties with first aid until paramedics arrived.

A fire brigade spokesman said: "Firefighters administered first-aid to two casualties prior to the arrival of North West Ambulance.

"Firefighters were at the scene for two hours and twenty minutes making the scene safe."

It is understood the casualties were later taken to hospital for treatment. It is not known if their injuries are serious.

Police have issued an appeal for witnesses and for information about who was driving the van.
