Junior Arts and Crafts organiser Jane Turner is standing down after building up the very popular section for the past 20 years, and Shire Horse secretary Melissa Thorpe’s retirement means chairman Lew Harrison is looking for her successor.

At its recent meeting, the GLASS (Goosnargh and Longridge Agricultural Show) committee chairman Adrian Hill reported plans were well in hand for the July 9 event, but offers from new people to help would be very welcome.

The junior section, in particular, has increased greatly in popularity over the past few years, with over a thousand entries every year.

Already welcomed to the fold were Christopher and Anthony Eccles, two new helpers for cattle section organiser Marjorie Dewhurst. Assisting Jean Hill in horticulture now is Elizabeth Harrison who will take over the section for next year, while Dave and Gill Dickens are assisting Barry Hill in running the Trade Stand section.

The committee also welcomed Denise Wolstenholme and Barbara Seed who have taken on the Food and Craft Section. They reported that entries were coming in already to fill up the marquee with a variety of stalls.

As well as classes for sheep and rare breeds, pet and pedigree dogs and light horse classes, the poultry section makes a return. Old and new attractions will be seen on the day of the show with more activities for children to enjoy for the price of a £3 wrist band. Advance tickets are now on sale via the web site www.glashow.org.uk or from the Heritage Centre in Longridge. The price of tickets has been held for another year – advance tickets at £6 with tickets on the gate £8. Under 12s enter for free, with over 12s tickets priced at £3.
