Neighbours have spoken of their shock after a 50-year-old man died following an altercation in Preston.
The man is believed to have suffered a stab wound at an address in Fishwick Parade this morning.
Police attended the scene at 6am and the injured man was taken to Royal Preston Hospital where he died.
The victim, who is from Preston but not believed to have lived at that address, has not been named.
Forensic officers were at the scene this afternoon, while officers carried out door-to-door enquiries.
One neighbour said: “I cannot believe it. It is normally a peaceful area.
“I was on my way to mosque when I saw everything was closed off and there was police tape across the street.
“I’d no idea what was going on.”
A 63-year-old man from Scotland was later detained by police on the M6 in Cumbria.
He is being questioned on suspicion of murder.
A post mortem examination was due to be carried out today to try to establish a cause of death.
A force spokesman said an investigation is underway, led by Lancashire Constabulary’s Force Major Investigation Team, and inquiries are ongoing.
