A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of murdering his wife at their countryside home.
A 62-year-old woman, named locally as Ruth Coxhead, was found dead at the home she shared with husband Peter, 63, in rural Parker Lane, Whitestake, near Preston.
Police were alerted after a call from the ambulance service at 10.25am on Tuesday.
Mr Coxhead was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder and was in custody on Wednesday night.
A post-mortem examination is being carried out to establish the cause of Mrs Coxhead’s death.
Nearby residents have spoken of their shock at the murder probe surrounding the couple, who are believed to have three children and also grandchildren.
A next door neighbour said: “It was right at the back of me. I’m surprised, as you would be on a quiet country lane like this.
“She was a nice lady and a good neighbour.”
Another local resident, who asked not to be named, said: “I’m shocked, things like this don’t usually happen in Whitestake.
“It’s really sad, I feel for the family.”
The large, detached family house is set back on a long private drive, surrounded by farmland and fields. A policeman on duty at the address told the Evening Post no family members were at home on Wednesday afternoon.
Officers were also seen carrying out door-to-door inquiries with neighbours in Parker Lane, some of whom are believed to be relatives of Mrs Coxhead.
