UPDATE: Man sustains serious injuries after collision with horse-drawn cart

A moped rider from Chorley is in a serious but stable condition after a collision with a horse-drawn cart.

The 22-year-old was taken to Wythenshawe Hospital, South Manchester by air ambulance yesterday and police have revealed he sustained broken ribs and internal injuries.

The incident occurred at 11.34am yesterday in Delph Street, Houghton Green, Warrington.

The man, who cannot be named, was driving a black Honda moped and his passenger a 21-year-old woman, also from Chorley, suffered minor injuries.

Two women, from Croft, who were travelling in the horse-drawn cart escaped uninjured, their horse also escaped unharmed.

A police spokesman said: “The man is still in hospital. He is in a serious but stable condition, his injuries are not considered to be life threatening.”
