Unicorn cafe is a dream at the end of a rainbow for youngsters in Chorley

It’s on the British passport and it now adorns the upstairs cafe at Latch bar in Chapel Street.

The creature in question, which doesn’t actually even exist, is a unicorn - obviously.

Manager at Latch, Becky MacLeod, 35, has decorated the cafe space in the best of unicorn chic with flying unicorn balloons, streamers and bunting.

She came up with the idea following other unicorn cafes on Instagram in Japan and the US and thinks she might be the first to bring the concept to the UK.

Becky took almost 300 bookings for the cafe in just one week and the concept has been such a success she’s extending it to continue this week as well.

“Its been so rewarding,” she said. “We had a little boy who came in and when he left he said: ‘This has been the best day ever.’

“The feedback that we have had has made it all worthwhile.

“People have written thank you notes that we have stuck up in the cafe.

“When you take the milkshakes to the children, you should see their faces, they are so shocked to have something so different.

“Its just been lovely to see their responses.

“It’s also nice for mums to be in a nice, safe environment

“We just want to give people a magical experience where you can step out of reality for a period of time.

“We’re part of Totally Locally Chorley so we’ve worked really closely with local businesses and the cake is made by Woodchats Coffee Shop, our balloons are from Boogienites Fancydress Shop and our sweets are all from Grandad Jim’s Traditional Sweet Shoppe.”

Unicorn obsessed children can gorge on three different flavours of unicorn shakes, a tiered rainbow unicorn cake, pink unicorn hot chocolate hundreds and thousands, flying saucers, macaroons, rainbow cake and even unicorn droppings which are secretly jelly beans.

Meanwhile mums can go for something a little more sophisticated, drunken unicorns, shakes which have a shot of liqueur.

Provisions are also make for young ones who might be gluten or lactose intolerant.
