Lancaster micropub set for major expansion with new brewhouse in Morecambe

The micropub and small batch craft beer brewery in Bulk Street was set up almost two years ago by Mike Dent, who also runs a computer repair shop in the same building.

Since then it has become a popular destination for craft beer lovers, offering both its own craft beer and many others from across the globe.

When the coronavirus pandemic hit, Mike decided to start delivering beer via a new website, as well as offering take-outs from the car park.

But he said Accidental Brewery's current output is not meeting the demand in Lancaster and the surrounding areas, so the new brewery tap room, off Green Street, in Morecambe, would allow him to increase capacity from 120 litres to 650 litres per batch.

He said: "Having a larger capacity will enable us to meet more of the demand for our beer, have more taps pouring Accidental beer in our bar in Lancaster as well as enabling other micro-pubs to serve to their customers locally and nationally.

"The new brewery is a whopping 163 square metres compared to our current size of 57 square metres in Lancaster (and that includes the seating area).

"It feels huge and we are so excited.

"The building dates back to the late 1800's and has a history steeped in the Morecambe fishing industry.

"It is old and quirky and will make a great partner to our micro-pub in Lancaster.

"Our new brewery will not only house the new brewhouse but will also allow us the space to brew more styles of beer such as barrel aged stouts, sour beers and of course lots more hazy brews."

The brewery has now launched a campaign to raise a further £15,000 needed for new equipment.

Mike has set up a crowdfunder in a "pay it forward" style, which means donations will receive a gift card at a higher amount and other perks redeemable against Accidental Brewery products when the new brewery is producing beer early next year.
