For the first time a live music festival will run in Longton.

Drawing on the success of last year’s Penwortham Live, which saw 2,000 turn out to cafes, pubs, shops and even a gym, 20 venues across the village will host performances.

The “Glastonbury without mud” festival will run on Friday, June 6 and Saturday, June 7, and is the brainchild of musician Nigel Stewart, whose Creative Network works alongside South Ribble Borough Council.

Nigel, who has also run a Leyland Live and Chorley Live, said: “Longton will be a great place to hold this kind of event. I want to take this to every village in the area.

“Many people won’t have been to a huge festival like Glastonbury, but this gives them the chance to get involved, go from platform to platform, and experience a real sense of community.”

Penwortham Live is also back for a second year, running in venues along Liverpool Road on March 28 and 29.

Mr Stewart added: “There’s no doubt that the first Penwortham Live was a resounding success.

“The venues were absolutely packed out with 2,000 people joining in over the weekend.

“One of the pubs ran out of beer on the Friday night and all but one of the cash machines were legitimately emptied. It’s a massive boost to the local economy.”

At both festivals there will be four performances at each venue, totaling around 180 live music performances.

Wristbands for both festivals cost £5 each. They buy entry to all of the events over the two days and primary school children go free as long as they are accompanied by a wristband-wearing adult.

The bands are available from all participating venues and acts, a full list is available at:
