David Rudman, 45, has successfully completed marathons in Wrexham, Manchester and Edinburgh in aid of Age Concern Central Lancashire. He also completed a half marathon at Oulton Park as part of his training.

David, who is Age Concern executive director finance and support services, said: “I’ve done some marathons before, even an ultra-marathon and done them as a fund-raising challenge, but there has been an interval between them.

“So having done these sort of challenges the next one has to be bigger, and more unusual.

“This led to three marathons in three countries, which ticked the bigger and more unusual box, but could have dragged on and might not have been seen as challenging enough, hence the time restriction to do them within three months.

“Training has had its ups and downs, cold days, dark nights, wet mornings, early starts, great company, fresh air and amazing views. I have to confess I haven’t managed all 454 miles of my training plan, but I managed to squeeze in an extra challenge it’s now three-and-a-half marathons. Oulton Park half marathon was a nice warm up for the marathons.

“I did this as I wanted to show my support to the teams for the great work that they do. I read the case studies, hear the stories, see the difference made to people’s lives.

“I thought the least I can do is get out from behind the desk and take on a challenge that is some small way may go toward supporting the work done and enhance the support provided.”

So far the father-of-two has raised almost £600 but he is aiming for £1,000.
