An outpouring of grief has flooded online tribute sites following the death 15-year-old Melissa Smith.
Over two and half thousand people have ‘liked’ a memorial Facebook page dedicated to tragic teenager, less than 24 hours after she died while playing football for Cadley FC on Sunday.
The former Penwortham Girls High School pupil was given CPR when she collapsed shortly before half time and a defibrillator was administered.
The efforts to save her life proved to be in vain though when Melissa was pronounced dead on arrival at Royal Preston Hospital.
Karen Pomeroy, headteacher at Penwortham Girls High School, said: “We are heartbroken to have lost such an enthusiastic and warm-hearted girl. #
“Melissa was so bubbly, so full of life, and she will be greatly missed by the entire school community.”
