Paula Garside, from Springfield Road, died in hospital exactly a week after marrying her long-term partner, Mark Lancaster.
The 38-year-old had been fighting cervical cancer since 2009, which had spread to her lungs, liver, chest and elbow.
At one point, she was doing really well and she felt she was responding to treatment and said she wouldn’t need any more intensive treatment at that time.
Last month, she was given the devastating news that she didn’t have long left to life, and her dying wish was to marry Mark in front of her loved ones.
Family friend Sophie Wilding said: “Paula was a genuinely caring, generous and thoughtful person right up until her last days, when she was worrying about leaving her family when she knew there wasn’t any hope.”
Mum-of-three Paula was taken ill a few days after her Valentine’s Day wedding, and was in hospital until she passed away.
Her new husband, Mark, was by her side.
“Paula loved her children immensely and Mark was her best friend,” Sophie said.
“She often came into my salon with her daughter Kiera, who always ended up costing her a fortune because she would buy her hair bows, headbands and make up!
“We all grew up on Wade Hall so everyone knew everyone in the community, and Paula was very well liked and loved.
“At one point, she was doing really well and she felt she was responding to treatment and said she wouldn’t need any more intensive treatment at that time.
“Then she came one day with the devastating news that the cancer had spread and was terminal. She still remained positive though and had hope that maybe something could be done.”
Sophie added: “Sadly she didn’t get to go on the honeymoon break planned with Mark.”
