Travellers move onto recreation ground

Around 20 caravans descended on Penwortham Holme Recreation Centre on Liverpool Road.

The move sparked a reaction on social media, with some folk outraged at the situation.

Local man Neil Haslett said: “Travellers have forced their way into Penwortham Holme Recreation Centre again.. mowed down fence on the A59 side to gain access.”

Police patrolled the ground. There were no reports of any incidents.

Penwortham Holme Recreation Centre has operated as the playing fields for Lancashire Education Authority since 1928, making it the longest established sporting venue in Lancashire.
