Train delays between Preston and Bolton due to points failure

Services are unable to run between Preston and Bolton due to a points failure on the line, leading to delays and some cancellations until around 8am, say Network Rail.

Engineers are currently on site to repair the fault.

A spokesman for Northern said: "Due to a report of a points failure, trains are currently unable to run between Bolton and Preston heading North from Bolton.

"Network Rail are on site and are trying to rectify the fault with further updates to follow.

"Train services running through these stations may be delayed by up to 20 minutes. Disruption is expected until 8am."
