These are the Lancashire road closures due to flooding this morning

Roads across the county have been closed due to localised flooding, with some transport services also affected.

Train services between Morecambe and Lancaster are delayed after lightning damaged the signalling system between overnight.

As a result, buses will be replacing trains between these stations until around 11am, said Northern.

Flooding in Coe Lane, Tarleton has forced the Stagecoach 2A service to divert from its normal route, meaning it is unable to serve the Cock & Bottle in Church Road.

Kirkham, Warton and Freckleton appear to have had some of the worst of the flooding, with policing having to shut the exit slip road at junction 3 of the M55 due to surface water.

In Kirkham, residents have reported waking up to find their cars soaked inside and flood water reaching their homes.

And in Lawson Road, Thornton (pictured), the road has been completely submerged by water.

These are the confirmed road closures this morning:

- A585 Fleetwood Road, Thistleton - Now open - Both ways had been blocked with slow traffic due to flooding from Thistleton Road to M55 J3 (Kirkham). Severe rain overnight had caused sudden flooding with a number of vehicles becoming stranded between the Windy Harbour Traffic Lights and the M55.

- A584 Lytham Road, Freckleton - Both ways blocked, slow traffic due to flooding between West End Lane and Lodge Lane. Traffic is slow due to surface water along this stretch. The back lanes, including Lodge Lane, remain submerged with reports of a car stuck in a ditch and others left stranded.

- Kirkham Road and Hillock Lane, Freckleton - Both roads off Preston New Road remain shut this afternoon due to flooding, with Hillock Lane particularly affected. Some cars are braving the flooded road, but motorists are advised to seek an alternative route if possible.

- Lentworth Drive Scotforth, Lancaster - Both ways blocked due to flooding from Barton Road to Hala Square. Diversion in place for bus service 100.

- Lawson Road, Thornton - Road inaccessible due to severe flooding, both ways blocked.

- B5412 Victoria Road East, Thornton - Victoria Road East has been closed due to flooding between B5439 Lawsons Road and Alexandra Road. Heavy traffic reported in local area as diversions are put in place.

What Fylde Borough Council say

A Council spokesman said: "The overnight rain resulted in localised flooding in the Warton, Freckleton and Kirkham areas.

"In a multi-agency approach Fylde Officers were on the scene from early this morning liaising with fire and rescue and LCC with regards to immediate requirements for the local residents.

"It became apparent after speaking with the residents from the worse hit areas there was no requirement to activate the emergency plan with regards to the provision of temporary shelter and / or overnight accommodation.

"The assistance effort was hampered by the fact that it was refuse collection today in the Freckleton area.

"A number of surrounding roads were closed due to the flooding in the area preventing access for bin collection and additional resources will be allocated tomorrow to collect any bins unfortunately missed today."

Flooding in Blackpool

The heavy rain saw the bottom of Warley Road in North Shore flood as drains were overwhelmed shortly before midnight.

That water, filled with rubbish and leaves, cascaded into nearby Bromley Close, flooding garages and gardens and leaving the road impassable.

The water receded as the rain eased off but swelled once again at around 1.30am as the wet stuff belted down with renewed vigour and strobe lightning turned night into day.

It had gone again by dawn, leaving behind an unpleasant odour and dirt and grit strewn across the black asphalt.

Both the council and water firm United Utilities were told of the flooding this morning (August 11).

United Utilities said it would dispatch a team to the street sometime before 10pm on Thursday (August 13).

Neighbours said they had suffered flooded properties, and some have even lost cars to similar deluges in recent years.

More thunder and rain on the way, says Met Office

The Met Office is warning of more stormy weather to come, with a yellow weather warning in place for thunder until midnight on Thursday (August 13).

The warning covers the whole of Lancashire, including Preston, Blackpool, Chorley, Leyland, Lancaster, Ribble Valley, Burnley, Blackburn with Darwen, Rossendale, Hyndburn.

The county's emergency services are warning motorists to avoid areas of localised flooding and to remain vigilant on the roads today.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said it had been called out more than 60 times through the night due to flooding.

The majority of the call outs were to the worst affected areas around Lancaster, Warton, Kirkham, Hesketh Bank and Tarleton.

It said no injuries have been reported at this stage.

A spokesman for LFRS said: "Many will be waking up to flooding across Lancashire this morning.

"We are dealing with flooding incidents across the county including Lancaster, Warton, Kirkham, Hesketh Bank and Burscough.

"There are a number of road closures in place, please don’t drive through flood water

"Take extra care on the roads as puddles maybe deeper than they appear and road markings unidentifiable."

Flood warnings in Lancaster

The Environment Agency has issued two flood warnings for the Burrow Beck at Lancaster for today.

The first flood warning covers the area around Canterbury Avenue, Cranwell Avenue and Bowerham Road.

The second warning covers the Burrow Beck between Newlands Avenue, Lentworth Drive and Whinfell Drive.
