Severe delays of up to 40 minutes on M6 due to crash between junctions 22 and 23

A collision on the M6 southbound between junctions 22 and 23 has resulted in severe delays this morning.

A collision between junctions 22 (Haydock) and 23 (Winwick) has been causing severe delays of up to 40 minutes today (March 12).

The crash occurred at around 7.20am.

The collision has been cleared but normal traffic conditions are not expected to return until around 08:45am.

Congestion has backed up to junction 26 (Orrell Interchange), according to Highways.

A spokesperson for Highways said: "Between J23 Haydock and J22 Winwick M6 there is a vehicle stranded in the outside lane due to a collision.

"Traffic Officers are on route to assist.

"Lane closures are set on the signals."

It is not yet know if anyone has been injured in the collision.
