A schoolboy has been taken to hospital after his bike collided with a car in Liverpool Road.

The 8-year-old was involved in a collision with a car in Liverpool Road, near the junction with Broadgate and Fishergate Hill, at 8.24am this morning.

It is understood that the boy was cycling to school when the collision happened.

The force of the collision knocked the boy off his bike and he was laying in the road when emergency services arrived on the scene.

Cyclist seriously injured in Buckshaw Village collision this morning

A police spokesman said: "We were called at around 8:30am to the report that there had been a collision between a boy on a bike and a Citroen DS3 at the bottom of Liverpool Road (Broadgate end at the junction where the bridge is).

"The boy, 8, had come off his bicycle and was laid on the road.

"He was taken to Royal Preston Hospital with a potential leg injury.

"Officers are investigating the circumstances. No one has been arrested.

"Anyone with information can call 101 quoting incident reference 210 of today (December 5th)."
