Roadworks update for the North West: All major works from January 11 to January 17

The following summary of planned new and ongoing roadworks over the coming week is correct as of January 8 but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

M6 Junction 36

Highways England is working along the A590 between the M6 and Brettargh Holt roundabout on Monday night between 8pm and 6am. Lane closures will be in place at the motorway junction and along the A590. A small section of the roundabout will also be closed for the night. Drivers leaving the northbound M6 for the local road network (e.g. A65) east of the motorway junction will need to do so via Brettargh Holt and then the eastbound A590; drivers leaving the westbound A65 for to the northbound M6 will also need to travel to Brettargh Holt and use the eastbound A590.

M55 routine maintenance

Four nights of 8pm to 6am overnight maintenance work will be taking place later this month at Broughton interchange, where the M55 meets junction 32 of the M6. Clearly-signed diversions will be in place using the M6 or A6 at junction 1 of the M55. Sections of the route will be closed overnight including:

Saturday, January 16 – link road from northbound M6 on to westbound M55

Sunday, January 17 – link road from southbound M6 on to westbound M55

Saturday and Sunday, January 23 and 24 – eastbound link roads from the M55 on to the southbound and northbound M6.

M55 junctions 1 to 3

Narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit are now in place along a short stretch of the motorway where a new junction (junction 2) is being constructed as part of Lancashire County Council’s Preston Western Distributor road project.

A585 Windy Harbour to Skippool improvement

Work to deliver a £150m new bypass and junction improvements is now underway. Information on traffic management likely to affect road users’ journeys will be included in this bulletin.
