Preston cyclist in critical condition after crashing into a wall in the city centre

A Preston man in his 40s has suffered serious injuries after his electric bike crashed into a wall near the Market Hall.

Police were called to Market Street in the city centre after a man was found unresponsive at around 4.30am yesterday (July 3).

Emergency services attended and the man was taken to Royal Preston Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

Police believe the man, in his 40s and from Preston, had been on an adapted electric mountain bike and is suspected to have crashed into a wall.

A full investigation into the circumstances of the incident is ongoing, say Lancashire Police.

Sgt Steve Hardman, of Lancashire Constabulary's Serious collisions unit, said: "This incident has left a man with some very significant injuries and my thoughts at this difficult time are with his family and friends.

"If anyone witnessed the incident or the moments leading up to the collision or has CCTV within the city centre that may have captured this, please get in contact with us.

"Due to the time the incident is believed to have occurred, understandably, there has been little footfall within the city."
