Police appeal for witnesses to New Hall Lane crash that killed Preston teenager

Police are appealing for witnesses to a crash that killed a Preston teenager in New Hall Lane last night (February 4).

The 18-year-old, named locally as Haroon Ahmed, was a front seat passenger in a BMW 1 Series which hit the roundabout opposite the Hesketh Arms pub before overturning and crashing into the cemetery gates at 10.50pm.

Haroon, who was from the Fishwick area of the city, died at the scene.

Three other teenagers from Preston, who where travelling with Haroon in the BMW, were rushed to hospital for emergency treatment.

The driver, a 17-year-old boy, remains in a critical condition having suffered serious neck and arm injuries.

The rear-seat passengers, aged 18 and 19, also suffered serious injuries but are in a stable condition in hospital.

Officers are now urging any witnesses to come forward.

Senior Investigating Officer Sgt Steve Hardman said: "Firstly my thoughts and sympathies are with the family of the man who died, at this incredibly distressing time.

"We are trying to ascertain exactly how this incident occurred and I am asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or the vehicle involved prior to it happening to make contact with the police.

"I am particularly interested in speaking to anyone has any dashcam footage or CCTV of the incident so please get in touch.

"I am aware that some photographs and videos of the aftermath of this incident have been posted on social media which is particularly distressing to the families of those involved.

"Please can I ask if you have uploaded any footage or shared anything on social media that it be deleted."
