Northern Rail: Train services cancelled or delayed after damage to overhead wires blocks all lines between Wigan North Western and Preston

Damage to the overhead electric wires caused severe delays between Wigan North Western and Preston this morning.

Due to the damage in the Euxton, Balshaw Lane area all train services were unable to run between Preston and Wigan North Western

Disruption was initially expected until 9.30am today (Tuesday, March 17, 2020), however, Network Rail now estimate that lines will reopen at 12pm, with disruption lasting until 1pm.

Service between Liverpool Lime Street and Blackpool North are also affected.

Rail replacement bus transport has been arranged to run between Leyland and Wigan North Western calling at Euston Balshaw Lane.

Northern are warning passengers to extended journey times by around 20 minutes when using road replacement.

Trains are able to run from Leyland to Preston but may be subject to short notice delays and cancellations. Services running from Wigan NW to Liverpool and Manchester are also able to run but maybe subject to short notice delays and cancellations.

Network Rail engineers are currently at the scene.
