Drivers can expect some disruption on the motorways during improvement works over the next few weeks.

The £120,000 signage works on a four-mile stretch of the M55 will mean some overnight lane and carriageway closures.

The westbound carriageway of the motorway between junction 3 at Kirkham and junction 4 at Blackpool will close overnight from 8pm on Friday and Saturday nights on successive weekends, on February 22 to March 2.

Diversions will be in place and a 50mph speed limit will be in operation ahead of the diversion from junction 3.

Further work to improve signs, along both the eastbound and westbound carriageways along the full length of the M55, will be taking place next month.

That work involves limited lane one and hard shoulder overnight closures along short sections of the motorway. The work will start on March 18 and will be completed before the Easter holidays. The lane and hard shoulder closures will take place between 8pm and 6am each night.

Highways Agency project sponsor Peter Gee said: “The gantries project will increase motorway safety by improving the quality of information for drivers.”
