Morning crashes and car fire causing delays on M55 and M6

As of 7.45am, police are dealing with five separate incidents on the M6 and M55.

1. M6 southbound junctions 28 to 27

Traffic officers are at the scene of a crash on the M6 southbound between junctions 28 (Leyland, B5256) and 27 (Standish, Parbold).

Highways say one lane has been closed due to a car fire. Fire crews are at the scene recovery are on their way to the area to assist.

There are no reported injuries at this stage.

UPDATE - 7.55 - Vehicle has been recovered and traffic has returned to normal.

2. M6 southbound between junctions 33 and 32

One lane has been closed on the M6 southbound between junctions 33 (Garstang, A6) to 32 (Broughton Interchange, Preston North).

Traffic Officers are currently at scene and recovery are on their way to help clear the lane.

UPDATE - 7.55am - Vehicles have been moved to a place of safety and all lanes are now open. All lanes have been re-opened. Lane one (Of three) was closed.

3. M6 northbound between junctions 35 to 36

Police are at the scene of a crash on the M6 northbound between junctions 35 (Carnforth, Morecambe) and 36 (Barrow, Kendal, Kirby Lonsdale).

One lane has been closed due to the crash. Recovery crews are on their way to help clear the scene.

4. M6 northbound between junctions 31 and 31A

One lane is closed due to a crash on the M6 northbound between junctions 31 (A59 Preston New Road, Samlesbury) to 31A (B6242 Bluebell Way, Longridge).

Lane four (Of four) is closed, leading to slow traffic on the affected stretch of carriageway.

Traffic Officers and recovery teams are on their way to the area.

5. M55 westbound between junctions 1 and 3

A crash on the M55 westbound has led all to ALL traffic being stopped between junctions 1 (Fulwood) and 3 (Wesham Interchange, Kirkham, Fleetwood).

Traffic has been held since around 7.20am and police are still at the scene.

6. M65 westbound slip road at junction 8

One lane (of two) has been closed on the entry slip road as you head away from the roundabout at junction 8 (A56, Accrington).

This is due to a broken down vehicle. Traffic is coping well.
