The Tulketh Road crash involved two other cars - a parked BMW and an Audi - and led to the Corsa overturning and rolling onto its roof on the bend between Egerton Road and Powis Road shortly after 10pm.

Pictures shared by community group Ashton and Riversway PACT show the Corsa on its roof on the pavement outside a row of terraced homes. A black BMW parked on the street nearby appears to have sustained significant damage to its front offside wheel.

Police, ambulance and fire crews responded, with Tulketh Road closed for around two hours whilst they worked at the scene.

The Corsa driver was rescued from the overturned car and treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to Royal Preston Hospital by ambulance.

Lancashire Police said the man has suffered "minor injuries" in the wreck. No other injuries have been reported.

A spokesman for the force said: "It was a three vehicle RTC involving a Vauxhall Corsa, BMW and Audi.

An ambulance spokesman added: "We received a call at 10.15pm to reports that a car had rolled over.

"We’ve dispatched an ambulance, an advanced paramedic and rapid response vehicle to the scene. One man was taken to hospital."

A fire service spokesman said: "We were called at 22.09pm and two fire engines from Preston and Penwortham were sent to the scene.

"When firefighters arrived at the scene, they were not required and didn’t stay at the incident."

Local resident, Michael Balshaw, said the bend in Tulketh Road - between the junctions of Egerton Road and Powis Road - has become an accident 'black spot'.

The cause of last night's crash is not known at this stage, but he says he has concerns over the manner of driving along the road and near the bend.

He said: "I have lived on this bend for 65 years and have witnessed many accidents and sadly there have been one or two fatalities too.

"They installed a pavement island opposite but I've seen people doing a 'Dukes of Hazard' right over the top. One even left his exhaust pipe behind.

"Others refuse to slow down and enter Egerton Road on the wrong side of the road, which can be very disconcerting if you are travelling up Egerton Road the opposite way.

"The bottom line is drivers need to slow down, not exceed the speed limit and take extra care on the bend."
