A six vehicle motorway collision has caused major disruption on the M6 southbound.
A lorry and five cars were involved in a collision between J28 Leyland and J27 Shevington Vale around 2.50pm today.
The whole carriageway was closed for 35 minutes but lanes two and three have since re-opened.
The first lane remains closed and congestion is currently tailing back to J31 Samlesbury, near Preston.
The North West motorway police told drivers to expect delays but revealed normal driving conditions should resume after 6pm.
A spokesman said: “On the M6 southbound between J31 and J27 there are currently delays of one hour caused by conjestion due to an earlier vehicle recovery.”
Lancashire fire service revealed that two people were injured.
A spokesman said: “Two casualties had been brought out of vehicles by paramedics prior to arrival and the services of firefighters were not needed after all.”
