M65 reopens after all traffic is stopped due to 'police incident' near Blackburn

All traffic on the M65 was temporarily stopped while police dealt with an ongoing incident near Blackburn.

The M65 was shut in both directions due to a police incident between between junction 5 (Guide Interchange) and 6 (Whitebirk Interchange).

Police, paramedics and traffic officers attended the the scene after receiving reports of a person on a bridge.

Officers held all traffic just before midday today (April 28), but the incident has now been resolved and the motorway is in the process of being reopened.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: "Following our earlier tweet the M65 has now reopened.

"Many thanks for your patience."

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance service said: "We were called to this location for concern for welfare.

"We took the call at 11:50am and sent an RRV and ambulance but did not take anybody to hospital."
