Hot weather prompts heavy congestion on M6 and M55 for getaway traffic

Lancashire motorists are being warned to expect significant delays on one of the hottest days of the year as motorways across the region become congested.

Huge queues have been building up on the M6 today as drivers take advatange of the scorching heat to head to the coast and Lake District.

Congestion is currently affecting the M6 northbound between junctions J27 and J30 and there are currently delays of 30 minutes against expected traffic

The M61 northbound between junction J8 and the M6 is also heavily congested with delays of around 20 minutes. Normal traffic conditions are expected at around 6.30pm.

There has also been significant traffic reported at the M55 Broughton Interchange, at junction 32.

For people heading southbound on the M6 there was a three-lane closure at Junction 18 after a collision . Delays of 40 minutes are expected.
