Emergency services rushed to the scene of a multi-vehicle collision on the M55 at around 11.15am today (March 5).

Two out of three lanes were temporarily closed on the M55 eastbound between junctions 3 (Wesham) and 1 (Broughton) as a result of the collision.

Traffic officers attended the scene along with Lancashire Police, North West Ambulance and INRIX.

It has now been confirmed that four vehicles were involved in the collision after a vehicle hit the nearside barrier in the roadworks area.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: "This is why speed limits are reduced in the roadworks on the M55.

"Four vehicle RTC after the first vehicle hit the nearside barrier and caused a further three vehicles to crash.

"Thankfully only minor injuries but would have been far worse had speed limits not been adhered to."
