'Devastated' families pay tribute to Lancashire couple killed in A59 crash

Tributes have been made to a Lancashire couple who were killed in a crash on the A59 near Skipton.

Mark Trevor Gregson, 52, and Claire Louise Lucas, 43, from Barnoldswick, died after their Nissan Juke was involved in a crash with a Mercedes Vito van at around 9.40am on Friday, January 24.

Mr Gregson, who had been driving, and passenger Ms Lucas, were both pronounced dead at the scene.

A 28-year-old man, who had been driving the Mercedes van, has been arrested and released under investigation.

His passenger, a 28-year-old woman, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The families of Mark Gregson and Claire Lucas said they have been left 'devastated' by the couple's deaths.

"Mark was a much loved son, brother, partner and father to two daughters", said Mr Gregson's family.

"His family are devastated by his sudden and tragic death.

"Mark was popular and well-liked by his friends and work colleagues and had a great sense of humour.

"He loved football and music and spending time with his family.

"He will be deeply missed by his daughters, his father, his father’s partner, his brother and Claire’s children."

Claire Lucas' family said: "The family are naturally devastated by the loss of Claire in these tragic circumstances and wish to thank everyone, her friends and colleagues for their messages of support and condolences."

Police are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen either of the vehicles prior to the collision, or were on the A59 at the time and may have dashcam footage, to contact North Yorkshire Police.
