Delays of up to 45 minutes expected after M6 collision near Leyland

Traffic is now slowly moving after a collision on the M6 southbound between junction 28 and 27 - but six miles of congestion have resulted in delays of at least 45 minutes.

Traffic was temporarily stopped after a collision on the M6 southbound at approximately 2:10pm today (October 8).

The incident occurred between junction 28 at Leyland and junction 27 at Wigan.

Traffic officers were called to the scene and the north-west ambulance service and Lancashire road police attended the scene.

A spokesperson for the North-West ambulance service said: "We were called at 2:03pm this afternoon to reports of a multi-car road traffic collision.

"We sent one rapid response vehicle and have since left the scene and haven't taken anyone to hospital."

After a 15 minute standstill, traffic has now been released and all lanes have been reopened.

Highways England have said that all the vehicles have been recovered, but the incident is now causing delays 'of 45 minutes above the normal journey time for this time of day' with over six miles of congestion.
