Cyclist rushed to hospital with serious head injury after Walton-le-Dale crash

A cyclist has suffered a serious head injury after a crash in Walton-le-Dale yesterday afternoon (Sunday, October 25).

The man, from Walton-le-Dale, was knocked off his bike near a set of temporary traffic lights in Duddle Lane, at the junction with Selkirk Drive, at 3.10pm.

Ambulance crews rushed to the scene and the man was taken to Royal Preston Hospital for emergency treatment.

He has suffered a serious head injury, as well as injuries to his hip, leg and face.

Police say the man is aged in his 50s, but the ambulance service say he is in his 30s. The Post has sought clarification on this.

An NWAS spokesman said: "We were called at 3.11pm yesterday afternoon (Sunday, October 25) to reports of an RTC in Duddle Lane.

"We sent an RRV (rapid response vehicle) and ambulance to the scene and treated a male patient in his 30s with a serious head injury.

"He was taken to Royal Preston Hospital by ambulance."

The road remained closed until 5pm whilst police investigated how the crash had happened.

A police spokesman added: "We were called at 3.15pm yesterday (Sunday, October 25) to a report of a collision in Duddle Lane, Walton-le-Dale.

"A car had been involved in a collision with a cyclist.

"The cyclist, a man in his 50s, from Walton-le-Dale, suffering serious hip, leg and facial injuries and was taken to Royal Preston Hospital for treatment.

"The road re-opened around 5pm."
