Crash on M6 motorway forces lane to close near Wigan

Emergency services have rushed to the scene of a collision on the M6 near Wigan.

Traffic was stopped on the M6 southbound between junctions 26 (Orrell Interchange) and 25 (Bryn Interchange) following a crash at around 3.40pm today (August 27).

Traffic officers, paramedics, and firefighters rushed to the scene of the collision - which reportedly involved a lorry and a car.

Severe congestion has been reported in the area, with motorists reportedly experiencing delays of up to 90 minutes, but Highway England have confirmed the carriageway has reopened.

In a previous statement, a spokesman for Highways England said: "The M6 southbound J26 (Orrell Interchange, M58) to J25 (Wigan).

"One lane has been closed due to a collision.

"Traffic Officers, Greater Manchester Police, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, North West Ambulance Service and recovery are on their way to the area."

It is not yet known if anyone has been injured in the crash.
