Crash involving lorry and car on M6 results in severe delays of 90 minutes near Preston

A heavy goods vehicle and a car crashed between junctions 32 (Broughton Interchange) and 33 (Hampson Green Interchange) at approximately 2.45pm today (July 24).

Two of three lanes had been closed as a result of the collision, resulting in motorists facing delays of up to 90 minutes. This has now been reduced to a one lane closure.

Traffic is reportedly spanning nine miles back to junction 31a (Haighton Interchange), with average speeds of around 7mph on the approach to junction 32.

Traffic officers have rushed to the scene and people have been advised to "consider alternative routes and allow extra time for their journey."

A spokesman for Highways England said: "The M6 northbound J32 (Broughton Interchange, Blackpool, Preston North) to J33 (Galgate, Lancaster South A6).

"This has now been reduced to a lane three closure only.

"We are currently dealing with a spillage as a result of the accident."
